From its humble beginnings in 1911 to its present status as one of the most prestigious and difficult rallies in the world, the Monte Carlo Rally has a long and interesting history that continues to fascinate and inspire motorsport fans all over the world.<\/p><h2>Winner of the Rally of 1961<\/h2><p>In 1961, 305 teams started the race but only 156 made to the finish. This edition had a big polemic over changes in the rules that favored three teams driving the same car, a <a href=\"https:\/\/oldmotors.net\/panhard-pl-17-the-two-cylinder-tiger\/\">Panhard PL 17 Tigre<\/a>. This was a french car manufactured between 1959 and 1965. A french team composed of <a href=\"http:\/\/panhard-racing-team.fr\/?page_id=888\">Maurice Martin<\/a> and Roger Bateau won the first prize, while the second and third positions went to a German and second french team.<\/p><h2>Winners of the Rally of 1962<\/h2><p>313 teams took part in the 1962 edition of the Rally, but only 247 finished the race. The rally was won by Saab 96 <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ewrc-results.com\/images\/icon\/saab.png?w=640&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"icon\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/>driven by the Swedish team\u00a0 composed of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bing.com\/search?EID=MBSC&amp;form=BGGCDF&amp;pc=U710&amp;q=Erik+Carlsson\">Erik Carlsson (1929- 2015)<\/a> and Gunnar H\u00e4ggbom. A Mercedes-Benz 220 SE <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ewrc-results.com\/images\/icon\/mercedes.png?w=640&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"icon\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/>won the second place. followed by a Sunbeam Rapier<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ewrc-results.com\/images\/icon\/sunbeam.png?w=640&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"icon\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/>. The <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sunbeam_Rapier\">Sunbeam Rapier<\/a> is an automobile produced by Rootes Group from 1955 until 1976. Erik Carlson also won the 1963 edition of the rally in another edition of the Saab\u00a0 96.<\/p><h2>Winners of the Rally of 1963<\/h2><p>The Swedish cahmprion Erik Carlson assisted by Palm Gunnar won the 1963 edition of the rally in a Saab 96 Sport <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"The Rally of Monte Carlo\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ewrc-results.com\/images\/icon\/saab.png?resize=40%2C20&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Saab 96\" width=\"40\" height=\"20\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/>. This edition of the race had 296 but only 96 managed to reach the end. Two finnish teams won the second and the third position. They weere driving respectively\u00a0 a <a href=\"https:\/\/classics.honestjohn.co.uk\/reviews\/citroen\/ds19id19\/\">Citro\u00ebn DS 19<\/a><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ewrc-results.com\/images\/icon\/citroen1949.png?w=640&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"icon\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/>and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hotcars.com\/the-original-mini-a-look-back-at-the-morris-mini-minor-\/\">Morris Mini Cooper<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"The Rally of Monte Carlo\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ewrc-results.com\/images\/icon\/morris.png?resize=40%2C20&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Morris Mini Coopericon\" width=\"40\" height=\"20\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/>.<\/p><h2>Winners of the Rally of 1964<\/h2><p>A british team won the 1964 edition of the rally of Monte Carlo in BMC Mini Cooper S <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ewrc-results.com\/images\/icon\/bmc.png?w=640&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"icon\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/>. The winners were <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Paddy_Hopkirk\">Paddy<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Paddy_Hopkirk\">Hopkirk \u00a0<\/a>(1933-2022) and Henry Liddon.\u00a0 The second and third place went to two Swedish teams, driving respectively a Ford Falcon Sprint car <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ewrc-results.com\/images\/icon\/ford.png?w=640&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"icon\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/> and a Saab 96 Sport<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ewrc-results.com\/images\/icon\/saab.png?w=640&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"icon\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/>. Erik Carlson the champion of 1962 and 1963 obtained the third place.<\/p><h2>Winners of the Rally of 1965<\/h2><p>The 1965 was also won by a BMC Mini Cooper <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ewrc-results.com\/images\/icon\/bmc.png?w=640&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"icon\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/>driven by the Finnish team composed of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Timo_M%C3%A4kinen\">Timo M\u00e4kinen (1938 -2017)<\/a> and Paul Easter. A Porsche 904 Carrera GTS <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ewrc-results.com\/images\/icon\/porsche.png?w=640&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"icon\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/>arrived in the second position, followed by a Saab 96 Sport<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ewrc-results.com\/images\/icon\/saab.png?w=640&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"icon\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/>.
