Mais le lac du barrage, qui s&#8217;\u00e9tendrait sur des centaines de kilom\u00e8tres de la Nubie \u00e9gyptienne et de la Nubie soudanaise, mena\u00e7ait d&#8217;engloutir un grand nombre de monuments pharaoniques, dont 17 temples, dont le plus c\u00e9l\u00e8bre est le temple Rams\u00e8s II \u00e0 Abou Simbel.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">L&#8217;\u00c9gypte a demand\u00e9 une assistance internationale pour sauver les temples en les d\u00e9mantelant pierre par pierre et en les reconstruisant dans d&#8217;autres endroits adjacents \u00e0 l&#8217;endroit d&#8217;origine, loin des eaux du lac Dam ou dans de nouveaux endroits.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">En 1960,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.unesco.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">l&#8217;UNESCO\u00a0<\/a>a lanc\u00e9 une campagne internationale pour sauver les monuments de la Nubie, dans laquelle trente pays ont \u00e9t\u00e9 impliqu\u00e9s en fournissant une expertise scientifique et des ressources mat\u00e9rielles pour ce projet g\u00e9ant. Pour fournir les moyens financiers necessaires de ce projet, trente pays ont \u00e9mis des timbres-poste comm\u00e9moratifs portant la mention \u00absauver les monuments de Nubie\u00bb.
