Le pr\u00e9sident Gamal Abdel-Nasser<\/a> (15 janvier 1918 – 28 septembre 1970) \u00e9tait un officier \u00e9gyptien qui a dirig\u00e9 la r\u00e9volution de juillet qui a mis fin \u00e0 la monarchie en \u00c9gypte<\/a> et a \u00e9tabli la r\u00e9publique.<\/p>\n

Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 le deuxi\u00e8me pr\u00e9sident \u00e9gyptien de 1964 jusqu’\u00e0 sa mort en 1970. Il a men\u00e9 une grande transformation de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9gyptienne \u00e0 travers des plans de d\u00e9veloppement tr\u00e8s ambitieux dans de nombreux domaines tels que l’agriculture, l’industrie et la culture.<\/p>\n

Sous son r\u00e8gne, l’\u00c9gypte a nationalis\u00e9 le canal de Suez, construit le haut barrage d’Assouan, mis en place une \u00e9ducation gratuite \u00e0 tous les niveaux, construit de nombreuses nouvelles universit\u00e9s, modernis\u00e9 son industrie et d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 son agriculture.<\/p>\n

Nasser jouissait d’une tr\u00e8s grande popularit\u00e9 parmi le peuple \u00e9gyptien et dans le monde arabe et jouait un r\u00f4le international dans le soutien des mouvements de lib\u00e9ration dans le monde et en particulier en Afrique. Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 un soutien important \u00e0 la r\u00e9volution Algerienne<\/a>. Il a cofond\u00e9 le mouvement des non-align\u00e9s<\/a> qui a tent\u00e9 de se d\u00e9marquer des deux principaux blocs politiques du monde \u00e0 l’\u00e9poque.<\/p>\n

Au cours de sa pr\u00e9sidence, l’\u00c9gypte a subi deux guerres majeures. La premi\u00e8re fut la guerre de Suez, quand la Grande-Bretagne, la France et Isra\u00ebl ont attaqu\u00e9 l’\u00c9gypte apr\u00e8s la nationalisation du canal de Suez. La seconde \u00e9tait la guerre des Six jours<\/a> au cours de laquelle Isra\u00ebl a occup\u00e9 la p\u00e9ninsule du Sina\u00ef.<\/p>\n

Le pr\u00e9sident Gamal Abdel-Nasser<\/a> est mort d’une crise cardiaque peut de temps apr\u00e8s la fin du sommet de la\u00a0Ligue arabe<\/a> en 1970. Sa mort a plong\u00e9 le monde arabe tout entier dans le deuil.\u00a0Plus de cinq millions de personnes assist\u00e8rent \u00e0 ses fun\u00e9railles au Caire.<\/a><\/p>\n

Ces deux timbres ont \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9mis le 6 novembre 1970, une semaine apr\u00e8s la mort du pr\u00e9sident Nasser.<\/p>\n
