Il est consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme le p\u00e8re de la sculpture \u00e9gyptienne et arabe moderne.<\/p><h3>Origine modeste<\/h3><p>Fils du maire d&#8217;un petit village du delta du Nil, il a grandi au <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Le_Caire\">Caire<\/a>. T\u00f4t dans son enfance, Mukhtar a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 faire des sculptures de boue pr\u00e8s du canal. En 1908, il faisait partie du premier groupe d&#8217;\u00e9tudiants de la nouvelle <a href=\"http:\/\/facultyoffinearts.com\/en\">\u00e9cole \u00e9gyptienne des beaux-arts<\/a>. Les professeurs ont d\u00e9tect\u00e9 tr\u00e8s t\u00f4t le talent de Mahmoud Mukhtar en sculpture et lui ont assign\u00e9 un atelier sp\u00e9cial au sein de l&#8217;\u00e9cole. Il a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 sculpter des sc\u00e8nes inspir\u00e9es de la vie paysanne et citadine \u00e9gyptienne.<\/p><figure id=\"attachment_2978\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2978\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theworldinstamps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Egypt-1991-YT1432.png?resize=640%2C395\" alt=\"Mahmoud Mukhtar - Sculptor\" width=\"640\" height=\"395\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2978\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Egypt-1991-YT1432 &#8211; Mahmoud Mukhtar &#8211; Sculptor<\/figcaption><\/figure><h3>Etudes \u00e0 Paris<\/h3><p>Le prince \u00e9gyptien, Kamal Youssef, sponsor majeur de l\u2019institut \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque, a fait remarquer le talent de Mukhtar. Il d\u00e9cide de l&#8217;envoyer \u00e0 <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Beaux-Arts_de_Paris\">l&#8217;Ecole des Beaux Arts de Paris<\/a> pour poursuivre ses \u00e9tudes sous la direction d&#8217;artistes de renom.<br \/>Au cours de ses \u00e9tudes \u00e0 Paris, Mahmoud Mukhtar est devenu un nationaliste engag\u00e9 et a utilis\u00e9 son art pour soutenir le mouvement national \u00e9gyptien. En 1919, au milieu de la r\u00e9volution \u00e9gyptienne contre l&#8217;occupation britannique, il sculpte son chef-d&#8217;\u0153uvre, \u00abLa Renaissance de l&#8217;\u00c9gypte\u00bb. Avec la miniature de cette statue, il remporte la m\u00e9daille d&#8217;or \u00e0 l&#8217;exposition annuelle des artistes fran\u00e7ais qui se tient au <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grandpalais.fr\/fr\/decouvrez-le-grand-palais\">Grand Palais<\/a>\u00a0en 1920.<\/p><figure id=\"attachment_2985\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2985\" style=\"width: 256px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theworldinstamps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Nahdet_masr-256x300.jpg?resize=256%2C300\" alt=\"Mahmoud Mukhtar - Eypt's Renaissance\" width=\"256\" height=\"300\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2985\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mahmoud Mukhtar &#8211; Eypt&#8217;s Renaissance<\/figcaption><\/figure><h3>Renomm\u00e9e internationale<\/h3><p>Le sculpteur Mahmoud Mukhtar a \u00e9t\u00e9 le premier artiste arabe \u00e0 exposer ses \u0153uvres lors d&#8217;une exposition internationale \u00e0 Paris. Son art \u00e9tait respect\u00e9 et appr\u00e9ci\u00e9 par les milieux officiels fran\u00e7ais dans le domaine artistique. Il jouissait \u00e9galement d&#8217;une grande notori\u00e9t\u00e9 et de respect parmi le peuple \u00e9gyptien. Entre 1928 et 1930, il a sculpt\u00e9 deux statues du <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Saad_Zaghloul\">leader national \u00e9gyptien Saad Zaghloul<\/a> expos\u00e9es au Caire et \u00e0 Alexandrie.<br \/>Mahmoud Mukhtar a contribu\u00e9 au d\u00e9veloppement de l&#8217;\u00e9tude et \u00e0 la renaissance de l&#8217;Ecole Sup\u00e9rieure des Beaux-Arts, ainsi qu&#8217;\u00e0 sa participation \u00e0 la s\u00e9lection de personnes talentueuses en art de la sculpture afin de les envoyer en bourse \u00e0 l&#8217;\u00e9tranger.<\/p><h3>Mus\u00e9e\u00a0 Mahmoud Mukhtar au Caire<\/h3><p>En 1938, quatre ans apr\u00e8s sa mort, le gouvernement \u00e9gyptien a d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de cr\u00e9er un mus\u00e9e pour les \u0153uvre de Mahmoud Mukhtar. Les conditions de la Seconde Guerre mondiale ont retard\u00e9 l&#8217;ouverture du Mus\u00e9e. Il fut finalement ouvert en juillet 1952 apr\u00e8s <a href=\"https:\/\/theworldinstamps.com\/?p=2932&amp;lang=fr\">la r\u00e9volution des officiers libres<\/a>.
