The area of the territory was 1500 sq Km composed of the small town of Sidi Ifni as capital in addition to few villages.<\/p><figure id=\"attachment_3344\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3344\" style=\"width: 309px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theworldinstamps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Ifni-1961-178-185-7.png?resize=309%2C503\" alt=\"Satamp Sidi Ifni 1961\" width=\"309\" height=\"503\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3344\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Stamp of Sidi Ifni 1961. Y&amp;T 153<\/figcaption><\/figure><h3>Spanish Occupation<\/h3><p>The enclave in the region of present-day Sidi Ifni was first occupied by Spain in In 1476 to establish a Spanish settlement named <a title=\"Santa Cruz de la Mar Peque\u00f1a\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Santa_Cruz_de_la_Mar_Peque%C3%B1a\">Santa Cruz de la Mar Peque\u00f1a<\/a>. It remained in Spanish hands until 1524 when it was liberated by the Morrocan Saadian dynasty.<\/p><p>In the nineteenth century, following a the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hispano-Moroccan_War_(1859%E2%80%9360)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hispano-Moroccan war (1859-1860)<\/a>, the sultanat of Morocco ceded the territory to Spain in 1860.<\/p><figure id=\"attachment_3347\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3347\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theworldinstamps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/1024px-Morocco_Protectorate.svg.png?resize=640%2C612\" alt=\"Morocco subdivisions\" width=\"640\" height=\"612\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3347\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Morocco subdivisions during the French and Spanish protectorates<b>(*)<\/b>.<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Immediately after its independence in 1956, Morocco started claiming sovereignty over all other Spanish possessions in Morocco such as Ceuta, Melilla, Ifni,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cape_Juby\">Cape Juby<\/a>\u00a0(Today Tarfaya) and the western Sahara, in addition to Mauritania that was under the French control.<\/p><h3>Liberation of Ifni<\/h3><p>The Moroccan Liberation Army started a series of attacks against the Spanish outposts in the Sahara and Ifni and managed to control a large portion of these territories. This was known as I<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ifni_War\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fni war or the\u00a0<\/a>forgotten war ended by a treaty in which\u00a0\u00a0Morocco obtained the region of Tarfaya (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cape_Juby\">Cape Juby<\/a>).<\/p><p>Under international pressure, Spain ended its control of the territory of Ifni in 1969. The territory was intergated in the Moroccan kingdom.<\/p><h3>Stamps series Y&amp;T 153 to 156\u00a0<\/h3><p>The above stamp is one of 4 stamps issued to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Franco Regime in Spain.
