This man was a Zionist evangelical tourist who arrived in Palestine as a volunteer in an Israeli\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; color: #202122;\">kibbutz, then moved to Jerusalem, where he stayed for nearly a month, visiting the mosque daily under the pretext of taking pictures of the building. The fire spread from the wooden pulpit to completely burn the southern part of the mosque until its roof collapsed. In addition to the historical pulpit, the mosque&#8217;s furniture and carpets and historical decorative artifacts made of wood and gypsum were also destroyed by fire<span dir=\"RTL\" lang=\"AR-SA\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p><figure id=\"attachment_3456\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3456\" style=\"width: 931px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theworldinstamps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Egypt-1970-YT826.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theworldinstamps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Egypt-1970-YT826.png?resize=640%2C419\" alt=\"Burning of Al-Aqsa Mosque 60 mil\" width=\"640\" height=\"419\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3456\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Burning of Al-Aqsa Mosque 60 mil &#8211; -YT826<\/figcaption><\/figure><div><h2>The importance of Al-Aqsa Mosque for Muslims<\/h2><div>Al-Aqsa Mosque is one of the most important Islamic religious sites, as it was the first qiblah for Muslims and it is the third holy mosque after the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Masjid_al-Haram\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Noble Sanctuary in Makkah Al-Mukarramah<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Al-Masjid_an-Nabawi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Prophet&#8217;s Mosque in Medina<\/a>. The mosque gained additional importance due to its association with the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Isra_and_Mi%27raj\">incident of the Isra and Mi&#8217;raj<\/a>, and its mention in Surat al-Israa in the Holy Quran.<\/div><div><h2>The Organization of Islamic Cooperation<\/h2><\/div><p style=\"line-height: 19.2pt; background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; color: #202122;\">This act, which prejudiced the sacred mosque, the third of the Two Holy Mosques, had a great reaction in the Islamic world, and there were demonstrations everywhere. After this crime the late <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hassan_II_of_Morocco\">King Hassan II of Morocco<\/a> called the Arab and Islamic countries to meet in Rabat on September 25, 1969. The meeting approved a plan for the restoration of the mosque and resulted in the establishment of the Organization of the Islamic<br \/>Conference, which includes in its membership all Islamic countries. The name of the organization has changed since then to become the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oic-oci.org\/\">Organization of Islamic Cooperation<\/a><span dir=\"RTL\" lang=\"AR-SA\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p><h2>Retoration of the Mosque<\/h2><p style=\"line-height: 19.2pt; background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; color: #202122;\">The mosque&#8217;s restoration work continued under the supervision of the Jordanian Ministry of Endowments until 1986, when the entire area of the mosque was reopened to worshipers.
