The stamps focused on the modern education in Morocco.<\/p><h2>Traditional Education at the end of the 19th century<\/h2><div><div><div><figure style=\"width: 331px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theworldinstamps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Morocco-1955-YT340.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theworldinstamps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Morocco-1955-YT340.png?resize=331%2C491\" alt=\"Eduaction in Morocco 1955 - 2\" width=\"331\" height=\"491\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">A moroccan pupil. YT-340<\/figcaption><\/figure>Until the beginning of the french protectorat, Morocco like other islamic countries had a traditional education system focused on the religion. In that system, young children would learn to read, write and recite the Coran in a traditional school called &#8220;Msid&#8221; or &#8220;Kuttab&#8221;.<\/div><div>The children who learn the Coran by heart had the possibility to continue their theological studies in higher education institutions named &#8220;Zawiya&#8221;. More previledged children could continue their studies at <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/University_of_al-Qarawiyyin\">the university of al-Qarawiyyin (also noted Karaouiyine or \u062c\u0627\u0645\u0639\u0629 \u0627\u0644\u0642\u0631\u0648\u064a\u064a\u0646)<\/a> in Fez.<\/div><\/div><\/div><h2>Modern Education in Morocco after 1912<\/h2><p>Starting in 1912, the french protectorat authorities started planning the establishment of a modern education system. This system was intended to prepare future civil servants. It was based on two major pillars: the Muslim schools, and Muslim Colleges (illustrated below). They were created by the\u00a0 royal decree (Dahir) of February 18, 1916 on the organization of indigenous schools.<\/p><figure id=\"attachment_3511\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3511\" style=\"width: 494px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theworldinstamps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Morocco-1955-YT339.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theworldinstamps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Morocco-1955-YT339.png?resize=494%2C327\" alt=\"Eduaction in Morocco 1955 - 1\" width=\"494\" height=\"327\" data-wp-editing=\"1\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3511\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Franco-Muslim education- YT 339<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>A Circular of August 30, 1920 fixed the study plan and programs for the education of the natives and the creation during the same year of the Directorate of Public Education which supervised three education systems:\u00a0 European education, Jewish education and Muslim education.<\/p><h2>Muslim college Moulay Idriss in Fez<\/h2><p>The College Moulay Idriss was established in Fez in 1914. It was one of two modern schools established under the french protectorate by General Lyautey, the french governor. The other one was College Moulay Youssef in Rabat (Today <a href=\"https:\/\/lyceemoulayyoussef.wordpress.com\/\">lyc\u00e9e Moulay Youssef<\/a>).\u00a0<\/p><p>The two schools were offivially established by a royal decree (Dhahir) in February 1916 under the name of &#8220;Coll\u00e8ge musulman&#8221; or Muslim Colleges.<\/p><div><figure id=\"attachment_3514\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3514\" style=\"width: 325px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theworldinstamps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Morocco-1955-YT342.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theworldinstamps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Morocco-1955-YT342.png?resize=325%2C489\" alt=\"Eduaction in Morocco 1955 - 4\" width=\"325\" height=\"489\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3514\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Middle school Moulay Idriss in Fes. YT342<\/figcaption><\/figure><div><p>At the beginning of the french protectorat in 1912, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fez,_Morocco\">the city of Fez<\/a> was the capital of Morocco. The students also attended classes of law and theology at <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/University_of_al-Qarawiyyin\">the university of al-Qarawiyyin (also noted Karaouiyine or \u062c\u0627\u0645\u0639\u0629 \u0627\u0644\u0642\u0631\u0648\u064a\u064a\u0646)<\/a>, the oldest universities in the world according to the UNESCO.<\/p><p>The college didn&#8217;t have a student housing, and thus admitted only students who live in Fez. In 1940, the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mohammed_V_of_Morocco\">Sultan Mohamad V<\/a>, and his crown prince Moualy Al-Hassan (Future <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hassan_II_of_Morocco\">King Hassan II of Morocco<\/a>) laid the foundation stone for a student housing that could accomodate 50 students.<\/p><p>The students housing received the first residents in 1942.\u00a0<\/p><p>Until early 1930s, the college had less than 50 students, but it continued to grow yearly to reach 520 students in 1950.\u00a0<\/p><p>The college has become a high school that operates under the name &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/lycee-moulay-driss.blogspot.com\/\">Lyc\u00e9e Moulay Idriss<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p><h2>Muslim School in Camp Boulhaut (Benslimane):<\/h2><p>The city of camp Boulhaut was first established as a french military camp om 1907 during the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/French_conquest_of_Morocco\">campaign of Morocco<\/a>\u00a0or the military conquest of Morocco. The first urban area was designed as a residential area of army officers.\u00a0<\/p><figure id=\"attachment_3513\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3513\" style=\"width: 495px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theworldinstamps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Morocco-1955-YT341.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theworldinstamps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Morocco-1955-YT341.png?resize=495%2C325\" alt=\"Eduaction in Morocco 1955 - 3\" width=\"495\" height=\"325\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3513\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">School in Camp-Boulhaut &#8211; Ben Slimane &#8211; YT 341<\/figcaption><\/figure><div><p>The urban part of the camp growed towards the the town of Bouznika and progressively to become a small town with a large Moroccan population. The stamps above feature a &#8220;Muslim school&#8221; established by the occupation authorities for the local population.<\/p><p>Camp Boulhaut is a today the Moroccan city named <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Benslimane\">Benslimane<\/a>. It is located about 60 km south-east of Rabat and 60 km north-east of Casablanca. It is name dis after \u201cSidi Muhammad bin Suleiman,\u201d whose tomb is located a kilometer away to the southwestern part of the city center.<\/p><p>Benslimane had 58,194 inhabitants in 2014.
