Al Aqaba is the only coastal city and port in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jordan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">kingdom of Jordan<\/a>. It is located in the south of the coutry on the red sea and the Gulf of Aqaba. It is located about 300 KM ( 200 miles) south of the capital Amman. Tourists can arrive to Aqaba directly through its international airport.<\/p><h2>Al Aqaba Castle<\/h2><figure id=\"attachment_4027\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4027\" style=\"width: 436px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a style=\"background-color: #ffffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theworldinstamps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Jordan-2007-Aqaba-SW-2041.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theworldinstamps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Jordan-2007-Aqaba-SW-2041.png?resize=436%2C548\" alt=\"Tourism in Al Aqaba Jordan SW-2041\" width=\"436\" height=\"548\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4027\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tourism in Al Aqaba &#8211; Aqaba Castle &#8211; Jordan SW-2041<\/figcaption><\/figure><p><a style=\"background-color: #ffffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aqaba_Fortress\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Al Aqaba Castle<\/a> was built by the Crusaders at the beginning of the 12th century AD, and its name was Helim, until Salah al-Din seized it in 1187 AD.\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; letter-spacing: 0.533333px;\">\u00a0As the castle was destroyed over time, the\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"background-color: #ffffff; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; letter-spacing: 0.533333px;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mamluk_Sultanate_(Cairo)\">Mamluk<\/a><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; letter-spacing: 0.533333px;\">\u00a0Sultan Al-Ashraf Qansuh Al-Ghuri\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif; letter-spacing: 0.533333px;\">rebuilt it\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; font-size: 13.5pt; line-height: 107%; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; letter-spacing: 0.4pt;\">in the early 16th century.<\/span><\/p><p>The charming castle overlooking the waters of the Gulf of Aqaba, offer an opportunity to get the best souvenir photos in this wonderful natural historical setting.<\/p><h2>Scuba Diving<\/h2><figure id=\"attachment_4029\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4029\" style=\"width: 432px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theworldinstamps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Jordan-2007-Aqaba-SW-2042.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theworldinstamps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Jordan-2007-Aqaba-SW-2042.png?resize=432%2C548\" alt=\"Tourism in Al Aqaba Jordan SW-2042\" width=\"432\" height=\"548\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4029\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tourism in Al Aqaba &#8211; Scuba Diving &#8211; Jordan SW-2042<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Aqaba Marine Park was established in 1997 within the coasts rich in coral reefs and marine treasures in the city of Aqaba.<\/p><p>The park, which is about 7 kilometers long, is located south of the city of Aqaba, and includes picnic areas, children&#8217;s playgrounds, and provides facilities for many types of water sports and cruises. In addition it has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.padi.com\/diving-in\/jordan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">19 diving sites<\/a>\u00a0within its coasts, which are considered one of the richest sites in coral reefs and marine life.<\/p><p>The main design objective of the Aqaba Water Park was to protect and preserve the local remarkable biodiversity in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Red_Sea\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the red sea<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gulf_of_Aqaba\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gulf of Aqaba<\/a>.<\/p><h2>The historical Aqaba port<\/h2><figure id=\"attachment_4030\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4030\" style=\"width: 433px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theworldinstamps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Jordan-2007-Aqaba-SW-2043.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theworldinstamps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Jordan-2007-Aqaba-SW-2043.png?resize=433%2C549\" alt=\"Tourism in Al Aqaba Jordan SW-2043\" width=\"433\" height=\"549\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4030\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tourism in Al Aqaba &#8211; The old port-\u00a0 Jordan SW-2043<\/figcaption><\/figure><div><div>\u00a0<\/div><div>In the few past years, archaeological excavations uncovered an old port dating from the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Umayyad_Caliphate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Umayyad period<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0(7th century). Experts show that the Islamic city is an extension of the port of Ayla (name of Aqaba in ancient times). This port was active in the period between the seventh and twelfth centuries. It was part of the trade route linking the Levant with other parts of the Middle East, Asia and Africa.<\/div><div>Archeologists say that only 40% of the port and surrounding city is uncovered.
