Algeria 1962 – Independence stamps

After a liberation revolution that lasted from 1954 to 1962 led by the National Liberation Front, the French administration in Algeria organized a referendum on independence on July 1, 1962. The independence decree was signed on July 3 and an immediate two-letter explanation was added on stamps. French post office available at post offices and cross out the phrase “French Republic”

The overprint is the first two letters in the phrase “Algerian state” or”ETAT ALGERIEN”.
