UAR 1958: Greetings for the establishment of the Republic of Iraq
On July 14, 1958, a group of Iraqi army officers carried out a military coup that ended the monarchy after 37 years of Hashemite rule in Baghdad and announced the transformation of Iraq into a republic.
On October 14, 1958, the United Arab Republic issued a commemorative stamp entitled “A salute to the establishment of the Iraqi Republic.” The stamp was issued in the Egyptian part with a value of 10 millimes, and the same stamp was issued in the Syrian part of the United Arab Republic with the same date and drawing, but with a value of 12.5 piasters.
