The independence of Algeria: UAR 1962

The United Arab Republic issued a commemorative stamp to celebrate the independence of Algeria in 1962.

After a 130-year French occupation and an eight-year armed revolution, Algeria’s independence was declared on July 5, 1962.

The stamps features the date of 1-07-1962 which is the date of the independence referendum organized by the French authorities. Almost 92% of registered voters participated in the referendum.  The vote in favor of independence won with 99.72%.
