Since 1971, the Algerian post started issuing series of stamps representing costumes of different regions of the country. This stamp represents the costume of the Aurès region.
The Aurès region, located in the eastern part of Algeria covers at least the provinces of Batna and Khenshla. It is known for its high mountains that culminate above 2000 meters and are among the highest mountains in North Africa.
The stamp is the first of a series of 4 stamps about costumes issued in 1971.
